With this announcement he will have personally increased the force in Afghanistan by over 50,000 troops in response to appeals from his generals. Obama's mantra about the conflict in Afghanistan is that it is a "war of necessity." But this is really just a version of the neocon "War on Terror" trope, which is to say that it implies that it is the natural, reasonable retaliatory response to the 9-11 attacks. (They started it, after all, so we have to take the war to them.) But neocon strategy has always required the simplistic conflation of disparate phenomena, and the exploitation of public ignorance and fear, in the execution of policy.

Israel stripped over 4,500 Jerusalemite Palestinians of their "residency rights" in 2008. This marks a huge acceleration of a policy that has been in force since Israel occupied East Jerusalem in 1967. In these 41 years, Israel has now stripped over 12,000 Palestinians of their "permits" to live in Jerusalem, 35 per cent or so of those in 2008 alone.
It also maps out exactly where the current right-wing Israeli government, which has made no secret of its wish to Judaise Jerusalem, a travesty of history if ever there was one, is heading.

The owner of the house where Adolf Hitler was born wants to put it on the market with a likely asking price of over £2 million ($3.25 million).

But the local authority in Braunau-am-Inn, Austria, has vowed to try to find a way of blocking any sale because it fears it could land up in the hands of extreme right-wingers who would turn it into a grotesque shrine to his memory.
The mayor of Braunau, Gerhard Skiba, said ideally the town council would like to purchase it and so control its future fate.
But there is not enough money in the town coffers to buy the property, Salzburger Vorstadt 15.
He says he will appeal to the government in Vienna to help the town purchase the property if the owner goes ahead with the sale.
It was in a room on the first floor of the three-story, 2,000 square foot house — the ground floor of which was a pub called Gasthof zum Pommer — that Hitler’s mother Klara gave birth to her infamous son on April 20, 1889.
She and her husband Alois, a stern local customs official, rented a suite of rooms above the pub and continued to live in it until 1892 when they moved to Linz.

The house is still owned by the family after which the pub took its name. Owner Gelinde Pommer says she wants to sell because the tenants for the past two decades, handicapped people who worked and lived there under the care of a disabled organization, are moving to more modern premises in January, and she no longer wants to have the responsibility for it.
The owner of Hitler's birthplace, Salzburger Vorstadt 15, wants to sell up. It could fetch £2 million ($3.5 million) but the town doesn't want it to fall into fanaticists' hands.
She has not yet advertised it, but estate agents have suggested it will have an asking price of about £2 million. She was not available to comment.
Nothing remains inside the building to indicate its link with Hitler, not even the bedroom where he was born.
The only Nazi-era relic is on an iron gate outside, the initials MB for Hitler’s party secretary Martin Bormann, who had them placed there when he declared the house a national monument after Hitler took over Austria in 1938.
Bormann bought the house with Nazi funds and made it a cultural center which displayed Nazi-approved art. During the war, Germans and Austrians were encouraged to pay homage to the house as a shrine to their leader.
'Idea of a museum would be taboo'
Fanatical Nazis tried to blow it up before liberating American troops arrived but they failed.
It was given back to the Pommer family in 1952 and served as the town’s public library until 1965 before becoming, in turns, a school, a bank, a technical institute and finally the home and workshop for disabled people.
Pressure is on from historians to turn the place into a museum. But Skiba is
against that, saying: 'The whole world will only come to Braunau to see the
"Hitler museum."

Stories appearing on several Ukrainian Web sites claim Israel has brought around some 25,000 Ukrainian children into the country over the past two years in order to harvest their organs.
The claim, which was made by a Ukrainian philosophy professor and author at a pseudo-academic conference in Kiev five days ago, is the latest expression of a wave of anti-Semitism in the country. It comes a few months after a Swedish tabloid ran an article alleging that Israel Defense Forces soldiers have killed Palestinian civilians for their organs.
Jews, Israel and anti-Semitism have become a major motif of the presidential election campaign in Ukraine, with some figures making anti-Semitic statements and others condemning them. Some candidates, including a Jew and someone whose rivals claim is Jewish, blame a third rival - Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko - for bringing anti-Semitism into the race.
"Ukraine's political system is a parody of democracy," Russia's Chief Rabbi, Berel Lazar, said.
Vyacheslav Gudin told the estimated 300 attendees of the Kiev conference a detailed story about a Ukrainian man's fruitless search for 15 children who had been adopted in Israel. The children, Gudin said, had clearly been taken by Israeli medical centers, where they were used for "spare parts." Gudin said it was essential that all Ukrainians be made aware of the genocide Israel was perpetrating.
The conference, some of whose participants belong to a Slavic-rights movement, also featured two professors who presented a book blaming "the Zionists" for the Ukrainian famine of the 1930s as well as the country's current condition.
Many Ukrainian Web sites covered the speeches without putting them into context. In response to a request by the country's Jewish community Ukraine's police force is investigating ZUBR, one of the Web sites that reported the speeches.
Meanwhile, Ukrainians demonstrated outside the Israeli Embassy in Kiev on Tuesday to protest a letter signed by 26 Knesset members condemning what they described as anti-Semitic remarks by presidential candidate Sergey Ratushnyak. Protesters chanted "Ukraine isn't the Gaza Strip," indicating they consider the MKs to be trying to exert control over their country.
The letter, sent to Ukrainian leaders last month, articulated fear of a new "wave of anti-Semitism in the Ukraine that has come to a peak with the authorization of Ratushnyak, the current mayor of Uzhgorod, to run for president." In his mayoral campaign Ratushnyak blamed the Holocaust on the Jews, saying they stole German property, and warned of the same thing happening in Ukraine.
Although the protesters did not describe themselves as Ratushnyak supporters, photographs of the demonstration were posted on the candidate's Web site shortly after the protest.

President Barack Obama's own top national security adviser has stated that there are fewer than 100 al-Qaida members in Afghanistan and that they are not capable of launching attacks ... To suggest that the Afghan government will be in seriously better shape 18 months after 30,000 additional U.S. and perhaps 5,000 more NATO troops are dispatched is bizarrely out of touch with the strategy of the McChrystal report, which calls for American troops to restructure life down to the level of the most forlorn village.

Out of curiosity to see exactly what kind of books Kevin Jennings and his organization think American students should be reading in school, our team chose a handful at random from the over 100 titles on GLSEN’s grades 7-12 list, and began reading through.
What we discovered shocked us. We were flabbergasted. Rendered speechless.
We were unprepared for what we encountered. Book after book after book contained stories and anecdotes that weren’t merely X-rated and pornographic, but which featured explicit descriptions of sex acts between pre-schoolers; stories that seemed to promote and recommend child-adult sexual relationships; stories of public masturbation, anal sex in restrooms, affairs between students and teachers, five-year-olds playing sex games, semen flying through the air. One memoir even praised becoming a prostitute as a way to increase one’s self-esteem. Above all, the books seemed to have less to do with promoting tolerance than with an unabashed attempt to indoctrinate students into a hyper-sexualized worldview.

"These are matters which, in my submission, ought to attract the closest and most careful scrutiny of the court of the supposed legal basis of these convictions."

During their first trial in 2008, Sheppard and Whittle had skipped bail and fled to California, where they sought asylum claiming they were being persecuted for their right-wing views.
However, they were subsequently but were deported back to the UK.
The investigation began when a complaint about a leaflet called "Tales of the Holohoax" was reported to the police in 2004 after it was pushed through the door of a Blackpool synagogue.
It was traced back to a post office box in Hull registered to Sheppard.
Police later found published material including grotesque images of murdered Jews alongside cartoons and articles ridiculing ethnic groups.
The pair were charged under the Public Order Act with publishing racially inflammatory material, distributing racially inflammatory material and possessing racially inflammatory material with a view to distribution.
'Abusive and insulting'
Sheppard, of Brook Street, Selby, was found guilty of 16 offences and Whittle, of Avenham Lane, Preston, was found guilty of five.
Sentencing, Judge Rodney Grant said that he had rarely seen material which was so abusive and insulting.
At the Court of Appeal on Thursday, Mr Davies said that the Act did not contemplate a situation where publication was in an electronic form but only in "hard copy" form.
And publication did not result merely when a website was set up but only when someone actually looked at it.

DENMARK: FREE SEX For Politicians Participating At Copenhagen Climate Change Conference (COP15)
Copenhagen brothels offer free sex to the participants of the COP15 summit, if they show ID and infamous 'morality postcard' published by the Copenhagen municipality.
The municipality has published free postcards with the slogan 'Be sustainable: Don’t Buy Sex', the aim of which is 'to make people understand that Copenhagen's ethical rules forbid commercial sex. The postcard has been distributed to hotels, the Bella Center, and other central locations in Copenhagen, hoping that this will keep the participants on the narrow road of virtue.
Nowhere does it say that prostitution actually is a legal business in Denmark.

The local organization of sex workers were deeply offended by the initiative of the municipality, which made them start their own campaign; 'Sex for Postcard', as an answer to the municipality's campaign against a legitimate business. The Copenhagen hookers suspect Copenhagen's unpopular Mayor, the Social Democrat Ritt Bjerregaard is behind the campaign.
In order to get the 'free ride' the participants must show their COP15 invitation, and present one of the anti-sex campaign's postcards. Employees of the Copenhagen Municipality or Copenhagen politicians are exempt from the offer.
(In the name of justice, Balder is considering a complaint to the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg for discrimination of the Copenhagen politicians. Adolf Hitler's autobiography manifesto Mein Kampf is selling as well as Dan Brown's latest novel, The Lost Symbol .. .. Last week, Mein Kampf did unusually well because many bought the book to give it away as an Eid present. Mabul, 15, is among many boys who risk the chaos of Dhaka's roads to earn a living selling pirated copies of popular paperbacks. .. "For some reason Hitler's book is all the rage among educated people - on a typical day I can sell as many as five or six," Mabul told the BBC.
